In cooperation with the Hanns Seidel
Foundation, SIDART took the initiative to address the requirement of the
empowerment of women representatives
of local self government within rural Rajasthan by providing them knowledge and information.
Three orientation workshops per village were
organized by SIDART. These workshops focused on three different topics:
- First workshop (Orientation to
Panchayati Raj System): Working of the Panchayati Raj System within
rural villages of and the decentralization of the Indian governance.
- Second workshop: Emphasized the
need of the empowerment of women and focused on their status and their
rights.
- Third workshop: Training and
role-playing activities in order to enhance the women’s capabilities.
Project
Start Date: September 2008
Numerous workshops have already been conducted
at different Panchayats in the Sanganer block of Jaipur district. By
means of the program, the women and adolescent girls of the village were
informed about the Panchayati Raj
Institution, their status being a woman, and their rights and privileges.
The orientation sessions were based on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi Ji
-the Gram Swaraj. Prior to conducting the workshops, SIDART composed
three independent Learning Units which structure the orientation
sessions.
